Biografia Pittella ItalianoEnglish

Marcello Pittella was born in Lauria in 1962. He is married and he has three children. He is a doctor. He practiced some sport when he was young and he was most involved in volleyball. Later he became a sports manager, involving hundreds of kids in his area. He took his first political steps at the end of the 80's following his father and older brother's footprints in the ranks of the Socialist Party.

He was elected in the City Council of Lauria in 1993 and he held the office of alderman for Productive Activities and Sports.

He became a councilor in the county of Potenza in 1995 and group leader of the DS party. He was re-elected in 1999, and held the office of President of the Council. He became mayor of Lauria in 2001. He was elected regional councilor in 2005 and confirmed in the regional lists of the Democratic Party in 2010.

He was a member oh the Executive board for Productive Activities, Policies and Technological Innovation in 2012 in the renewed regional council headed by Vito De Filippo, pledging to support small and medium-sized enterprises both through public notices and through support for internationalization. Subsequently, he was delegated as Vice President of the Basilicata Region.

Pittella won the primary elections of the coalition, thus becoming the center-left coalition candidate for the presidency in the regional elections of 2013. He left his tasks in the previous regional council on September 24th, 2013.

He was elected President of the Basilicata Region in the election of November 17th and 18th, 2013, and was proclaimed President on December 18th, 2013.
